皆さんは shame ＝ 恥 というふうに覚えていませんか？
海外に行って、英語は話せないけどなんか失礼な態度とられたり、言われたりしたときに言い返せなくて腹が立ったことは何度かあります。その時私は心の中で、
Shame on you !
と心の中で叫んでいます。そう心の中で。トラブルはきらいです。
Shame on you. は
tell someone that they did something wrong. Explanation: Having "shame" is very negative. This is frequently used to tell children that they did something wrong. "You know better than to do that, shame on you."
日本語でいうなら、恥を知れ。みっともない。それは恥ずかしいこと。と子どもにだけでなく大人に対しても使います。社会常識、道徳からはずれることや、不謹慎なこと、愚かな行動をとったり、わかっているのに、当然の事をやらなかったり、そんなことをしている人に対して言い放ちます。
お母さんが子どもにそんなことしたらみっともない！って時に言ったり、
誰かがポイ捨てしてるのを見て、Shame on you.
Shame on me も使います。これは自分に対して。
She is shameless.
You are shameless.
これは恥知らず。言われたくないですね。
I blushed with shame.
恥ずかしくて顔が赤くなった。

タイトルにもあるように、 That's a shame.
これは実は 残念だね。 という意味です。

そもそもshameの意味は、

shame とashamedこれ何が違うのか気になったことがある人、それは私なのですが、
shame は名詞なので、だから a shame という使い方をして、
ashamedは形容詞なので、I'm ashamed. や I feel ashamed. は、
恥ずかしく思います。
Having been poor is no shame, but been ashamed of it , is.
貧乏であることは恥ずかしいことではない。そのことを恥ずかしいと思っていることが恥ずかしい。
poor 以外にも置き換えて使えそうですね。
